Innovation Prize 2004

8 November 2004

An urban tunnel produces about 2 to 8 tons of dust particles a year (depending on the traffic volume) – an enormous burden for the residents! To protect people and environment we started developing filter systems to clean the exhaust air of road tunnels. After more than 15 years of research and development work our filter now is in practical use for the first time.

Finally we have been rewarded for our involvement! As part of the Innovation Prize and within a solemn ceremonial act at the ORF-Center we have been awarded with the special price of the state of Upper Austria. Subsequently we also have been nominated for the Austrian State Prize of Innovation.

In this context the ORF broadcasted a short report about our patented ECCO-filter-system on the 3rd of November 2004. Our filter is integrated into the existing ventilation system, it cleans the exhaust air and removes hazardous dust particles. In Cesena (Italy) we have put our system into operation for the first time. Now 90 % of the hazardous dust particles can be removed with very low energy consumption!

In mountain tunnels our ECCO filter also comes into operation. A kind of ventilation-by-pass brings the clean air back into the tunnel. This improves sight and air and supersedes the construction of expensive ventilation shafts.

There are many interesting projects for us in Europe in the future. One is the Westring in Linz, Austria, where each tunnel shall be equipped with our ECCO-filter-system.
