To protect people and the environment, the famous Mont Blanc Tunnel has been furnished with the latest generation of filter technology of Aigner. Now that the project is finished, we can look back on an absolutely successful job and collaboration!
Ever-larger tunnel projects are being realized worldwide to protect people and the environment, resulting in an increased demand for filter systems to clean the air!
The same problem came up with the famous Mont Blanc Tunnel, an 11.6-km-long tunnel linking Italy and France. Designed as a single-tube tunnel for bi-directional traffic, the tunnel sees traffic volumes totaling around 1.8 million vehicles a year. Leaving aside the beneficial results of building the new Mont Blanc Tunnel, the steadily deteriorating air quality was becoming an unacceptable side-effect for residents in the nearby town of Chamonix. The tunnel operators decided to integrate an efficient air-filtration system from Aigner into the existing tunnel.
We took a leading role in the Mont Blanc Tunnel project in terms of design and installation of the filter system, including all additional technical equipment. The filters had to be adapted to fit an existing ventilation system. This was also the reason for the two-part solution using ECCOEP, to guarantee the highest degree of efficiency despite the limited space available.
The Mont Blanc Tunnel company had good reason to select our ECCOEP system. This latest generation of filter technology is space-saving and makes for minimal pressure loss and low energy consumption. A four-stage filter process means highly efficient particulate separation, even of ultra-fine diesel soot particles. The degree of efficiency for all particulates lies at over 90 %.
Choice for Aigner
During the selection of qualified partners for the project, the tunnel operators first time heard about us. They gathered information and got into contact with us. When we had finally won an international call for bids, they were definitely convinced that we would be the most convenient company for this challenging project. With that decision they were totally on the right track! The Aigner ECCOEP filtration plant is in operation for about one year now and the tunnel operators are highly pleased with our job and collaboration! Altogether the Mont Blanc Tunnel was an absolutely successful project for both parties!
